The terms “on-grade,” “above-grade,” and “below-grade” refer to the various levels of your home. The ground-level floor is referred to as “on-grade.” Any floor that is higher than the on-grade level is considered above-grade, whereas the basement is considered below-grade. Basements necessitate a below-grade installation, which in many cases requires a hole in the foundation and the excavation of a window well. A basement escape window well might cost anywhere from $50 to $200 per cubic yard to dig. The removal of 1 to 1.5 cubic yards of land for a single window well is normal. Units with a minimum opening of 5.7 square feet are required for above-ground installations.
